Today I’d like to share a poem written by a poet from Eugene Oregon.
Enjoy!
Once we’d save our own seed corn
pick the brightest best ears
from the crib for next year
by girth taste and color
shuck by hand store
in ratproof steel milk cans
cool dry cache with a promise
all we had this year an more
but now every spring we go buy
hybrid seed packed in plastic
sterile glazed with insecticide
that in the final extremity
you couldn’t eat if you had to
no matter the bag’s pretty picture
what you get you hope you will never see
corn with no past and no future
