Despite the sustainable seafood movement gaining steam globally, the devastation wrought by global industrialized fishing continues on a massive scale. While sardines, mackerels, and other small, rapidly growing fish are becoming more common in supermarkets, most seafood merchants continue to focus on large, predatory fish such as cod, sharks, and tuna. A new Greenpeace report identifies the top supermarkets working to make a difference.

Have We Seen the End of Overfishing in US Waters?

Steve Murawski, recently retired chief scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Fisheries Service, has happily announced that, for the first time in the documented history of commercial fishing, we have seen the end of overfishing in US waters.
