2010: 27 Million Pounds of Meat and Poultry Recalled
GoodFood World, December 20th, 2010 Dan Flynn of Food Safety News pulled together a quick – and scary – list of meat and poultry recalls by the USDA in 2010. Here are the highlights:

- More than 27 million pounds recalled
- Nearly 5 million pounds of meat/poultry recalled for bacterial contamination
- More than 3.2 million pounds recalled for Salmonella contamination
- About 1.4 million pounds of ready-to-eat Italian sausage recalled in January and February
- 1.7 million pounds of ready-to-eat beef and chicken products recalled in March
- In June all 13-ounce packages of Marie Callendar’s Cheesey Chicken and Rice were recalled
- More than 2.3 million pounds of meat/poultry recalled for E. coli contamination
- During 2010, 24 recalls of meat and poultry involved Salmonella, E.coli, or Listeria
